We constantly update our home gym review section as new products or information comes to market. If you are limited on space or like the convenience of having one piece of equipment for all your weight training needs, a multi gym may be just what you’re looking for. A multi gym or home gym combines several weight training stations into one machine. Most home gyms include equipment for a press station and pec dec (for the chest), leg extensions and curls (thigh and hamstring), a high pulley for lat pull-downs (back), a low pulley for curls (arms), a seated row and abdominal exercises. More expensive fitness equipment adds squats, leg presses and sophisticated bench-press equipment.

Here are some general guidelines to follow when considering a home gym or multi gym system:

• The home gym should have good safety features. Make sure the unit is made of heavy steel, with a stable, sturdy frame and smoothly moving parts. The frame should be a minimum of two inches square with clean and smooth welded joints. Are the cables, rods, and padding sturdy and adequate?

• Make sure that the apparatus has enough weight for your anticipated use. For most people a 200 pound weight stack should be sufficient. It’s also a good idea to know up front if you can add weights to the home gym as your fitness level and strength increases over time.

• With some multi gym systems, more than one person can workout at the same time. If you think that you may be working out with a partner, does the system come with a second weight stack for multiple users?

• When shopping for home gym equipment it is important to understand both your budget, and space limitations. You will want to ensure that you have enough floor space and ceiling room to fit your new multi gym comfortably.

• Even if you will be buying your multi gym online it’s a great idea to find a retail store or visit a fitness club in order to go and try out the equipment before you buy. This way you can try out all of the features and different positions to ensure that it moves smoothly, adjusts to fit your body type, is comfortable and easy to use.

• Know that the home gym will not turn up at your door ready to go. Typically assembly will be required and getting this wrong could not only void warranty, but could put you at risk of injury. You may consider paying extra to have to have the equipment assembled for you as installation for some units can be difficult.
